Michael Richards' vile outburst at a comedy club has done something that his acting has not done -- gotten him noticed.

Who the heck is "Michael Richards"? It took some researching to finally figure out that "Michael Richards" was Kramer in Seinfeld. After digging around in youtube, I found that he'd shouted the n-word several times when he was interrupted by an African-American person. Yawn. I think I'll go have a nap now.

It's kind of sad. I've seen Richard's interviewed, and he's not a very bright guy, to put it mildly. I think what happened was that a persistent heckler made the lizard-core-fight-or-flight part of his brain light up like a Christmas tree, and that he screamed those words not to make a general case, but in a sad, visibly desperate attempt to injure one particular heckler, who was ruining his show, with the most hurtful thing he could think of.
It showed horrifyingly bad judgement, but unlike, say, Mel Gibson, there's no evidence that his words represented any thought-out, deeply held beliefs. There's no excuse for what he did, or for the words he used, but you can see on the clip that he was reacting like someone in a physical fight that he was losing. Anyone who's been in one knows that one's actions are not reflective of a general pattern of behaviour outside of that circumstance.
The context of any given situation gets shoved off the table when it comes to any hot-button issue such as use of the "N" word. The bottom line is, he's going to pay the full price, and then some, for his actions.

It didn't look like deliberate attempt but someone in his position should know know how to deflect a heckler.
However, we'll find that there's no such thing as bad publicity.

It appears that African-Americans are miffed that their status as most coddled minority group has been snatched away by the muslims. The A-A's are fighting back by overreacting to a few throwaway expletives issued by a once funny comedic actor who now happens to be all but washed up.
If you have ever seen a Chris Rock comedy stand-up special, he uses the n-word every thirty seconds or so. If you have ever observed a group of young blacks addressing each other, they don't use their given names, they call each other "niggah". Now what is it but hypocrisy to say it's forbidden to anyone else who happens to have different melanin levels in their skin?
I think I'll have a nap now, too. *yawn*

I saw the apology, I guess from Letterman, on Canada AM today.
I felt sorry for Kramer. He seemed to be either depressed, or on heavy tranqs or something. He looked terrible.
No matter how furious I was, I doubt I would come up with what he shouted. Let's fact it, if you go into standup you have to be tough enough to handle hecklers.
Ten years ago, you wouldn't have even heard about this. All this instant newsflashing gets a bit tiresome and takes the emphasis off real news. I mean why doesn't everybody just carry one of those things from Hominids, All Everybody All the Time?
You're probably right Steve. I haven't thought about Kramer for quite awhile and now this.
You know, I could use a nap myself...

Chris Rock is always saying cracker. The Arabs teach their children Jooooos are from monkeys, and pigs. A couple of jungle bunny rap stars gave a skinny cracker a hard time, and were called naggas. What's the big deal YO?

What made the rant worse even, if that was possible, was he appeared to be ranting about his career being washed up. A kind of self-fulfilling rant.

I'm so sick of white people claiming there's a double-standard when it comes to the "N" word. First of all, you can refer to YOURSELF in any way you see fit. But that doesn't give people outside of that group the right to use those words. If Italians or Irish people refer to each other with certain words, that doesn't mean I, as a black person, should ever say those things.
Secondly, just because SOME blacks use the "N" word to refer to each other doesn't give white people the right to go around calling any black person they encounter that word. If a white person has a close group of black friends and those friends don't have a problem with the white person using the "N" word, then fine, use the word around those blacks. But does that give you the right to call any other black person that word? Remember that most blacks are still offended by it esp. when it is used against them by a white person in anger.

All he has to do is enter some sort of "recovery" program, and I'm sure all will be forgiven.

Okay, so the guy apologized. I'm glad it's blown over.
Why isn't anyone raising hell over what the hecklers said? Or Jamie Foxx, Dave Chapelle or Chris Rock?

Yes, we do have the "right" to verbalize our emotions

I read in the news paper this morning that the people that were offended by Richards comments are seeking monitary reliefe. What??? Do you know how many time a year I hear the word "Cracker" directed at me? I think society is has hit rock bottom with even considering this garbage. Fact: I can say something that upsets someone else and they do not have the right to seek monitary compensation.

Where can we find the entire Michael Richards video which includes everything that preceded his rant?

Why do you all feel the need to defend Richards? If you ever wonder why blacks and whites still don't get along in this day and age, take a look at these posts. If you can't bring yourself to give a black person the least bit of respect by not calling him/her the nastiest slur you can think of why, should they make any effort to get along with white people?
P.S.

Flash,
You make an interesting point and bring a much needed opposing view to this blog; however does you post script not illustrate you doing exactly what you accused the white community of? Does your lower text also not kill any chance you had at making a real point? In fact, the only possible reaction in favor of your posting that you could now hope to generate is that of and angry uneducated racist, and honestly flash, that type of person may not have internet access.
